Russia: Adventurer and priest Fyodor Konyukhov breaks hot air balloon record

Renowned Russian adventurer and Orthodox priest Fyodor Konyukhov set a new world record, near Saratov, Thursday, after flying a hot-air balloon for more than 55 hours. The record-breaking voyage began on February 7 in the city of Rybinsk, Yaroslavl Region, some 300 kilometres (186.4 miles) north of Moscow, and ended in Saratov Region.

Konyukhov's crew included Aeronautics Master of Sports Ivan Menyailo. The crew covered a total distance of 1,029 kilometres (639.3 miles) across Russia.

During the flight, the balloon reached the height of between 190 (623 ft) and 300 metres (984 ft), flying at a speed of between 10 kilometres per hour (6,2 mph) to 40 kilometres per hour (24,8 mph).
